SCRAPIN’ THE COAST!Posted on June 20, 2019
Every June, the Mississippi Gulf Coast comes alive with the sound of loud exhaust, thumping car stereos and rowdy automotive enthusiasts. It is the annual Scrapin’ the Coast show held in Biloxi, MS.
This year marks the 17th anniversary of the show and it will take place this year on June 22nd and 23rd. Atturo is proud to be a sponsor for the 5th year in a row and this show continues to grow each year.
Now, with a name like Scrapin’ the Coast, you’d think this show is only about low riders. Well, in fact, you’d be wrong. Conceived around 2001 as an alternative to the mostly classic car show Cruisin’ the Coast (which also takes place in Biloxi each year around late September), Scrapin’ was intended to show off mainly lowered import tuner cars and mini-trucks.
However, over the years, the show has evolved to feature lifted trucks, slammed classics, motorcycles, modded side-by-sides, rat rods and pretty much anything on wheels. Attendance has grown significantly over the years and the show consistently pulls 3,000 to 5,000 registered vehicles every year.
Hosted at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, the show features an indoor display area with show cars and vendors and the action spills out to the entire outdoor area surrounding the arena with more food vendors, souvenir vendors, a stereo contest, mobile dyno, a burnout area and a stage featuring live music and DJs. Awards are given on the Sunday of the event and a live charity auction takes place just before the awards ceremony to benefit someone in need chosen by the organizers.
The event can only be described as organized chaos. On Saturday, the event is swarming with people and Atturo has gotten intense exposure and media coverage from our display booth. Once the event ends, show goers head to Beach Blvd, which turns into a parking lot as people line the road like a Mardi Gras parade route to see and be seen. This goes on all night, usually ending with flashing blue lights breaking up the party.
In addition to our display booth inside the coliseum, Atturo will also be sponsoring the Burnout Pit. Stop by to see some amazing burnouts! But before you do that, come visit our booth for a free gift, check out “Backsteppn,” a beautifully modded and lowered Chevrolet C-10 pickup outfitted with our AZ850s, and learn more about the exciting lineup of Atturo performance tires!
